COLOR REVOLUTION

2026

ORIGINAL ARTWORK

Mixed media on paper board

"Color Revolution" reinterprets Marianne, the enduring symbol of liberty born from Delacroix’s revolutionary vision,  through a contemporary pop art language rooted in disruption, media saturation, and collective memory.

Constructed from original vintage French 100-franc banknotes featuring Delacroix’s iconic imagery, the artwork transforms historical symbols of nationhood and value into a fragmented contemporary surface. Marianne herself emerges in deep red nail polish, a material both intimate and provocative, contrasting political mythology with gestures of modern consumer culture.

Layers of fluorescent splashes and vibrant pop colors collide across the composition, evoking the chaos, energy, and emotional charge of revolution in the modern age. As in Gabriel’s broader body of work, language, symbols, and archival materials are deconstructed and recomposed into dense visual fields where history becomes both medium and message.

Balancing heritage and disruption, Color Revolution questions how revolutionary ideals survive within contemporary visual culture,  no longer carried by flags and barricades alone, but through images, media, consumption, and collective projection.
