BIOGRAPHY

Gabriel is a self-taught artist whose work explores the continuity between historical memory and contemporary systems of knowledge. He has been practicing art for decades and has exhibited internationally for over fifteen years, with presentations spanning the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

His work has been shown across major art capitals including San Francisco, Paris, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney, in collaboration with both established institutions and emerging galleries, as well as in leading art fairs and joined some prominent  private collections across Europe and Asia.

Born into a lineage of historians, Gabriel developed an early engagement with archives, shaped by a sustained inquiry into identity, how it is constructed, inherited, and transformed over time. This questioning remains a foundational driver of his practice.

His work is grounded in an extensive process of research and collection, sourcing original materials ranging from newspapers and administrative documents to rare historical records, some dating back to the 17th century. These archives form the basis of layered compositions in which historical fragments are reactivated within contemporary visual structures. Working across a wide range of techniques and mediums, including acrylic, markers, charcoal, stencil, and experimental materials, he develops a hybrid visual language where materiality itself becomes part of the narrative.

Positioning himself at the intersection of artistic practice and contemporary thought, Gabriel approaches his work as a multi-dimensional form of expression where images operate as a language in their own right, extending beyond written discourse to question, construct, and reframe meaning.

His early series, Find a Word For It, examined the emergence of cultural and political icons through the accumulation and circulation of images. This investigation expanded into his Pop History series, exploring the genealogy of modern iconography.

Since 2022, Gabriel has extended his practice through the Codex Roboticus, where archival material intersects with representations of machines and artificial entities, positioning artificial intelligence as an extension of human memory systems.

Having lived across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, Gabriel has  based in Singapore for the last 17 years

ARTIST STATEMENT

Gabriel’s practice constructs a continuum between historical memory and emerging forms of intelligence. Working with archival materials like newspapers, administrative documents, and rare records, he composes layered visual fields where fragments of the past are reactivated within contemporary iconographies.

Initially developed through the series Find a Word For It, his work examined how cultural and political figures emerge from the accumulation and circulation of images. This inquiry expanded into his Pop History series, exploring the genealogy and construction of modern icons.

Since 2022, Gabriel has extended this approach through the Codex Roboticus, where archival matter intersects with representations of machines and artificial entities. Here, the archive is no longer a passive record of human history, but a proto-system, anticipating the structures of contemporary computation.

Here, the archive is no longer only a witness to human history; it becomes a substrate through which questions of artificial cognition, authorship, and “machine wisdom” emerge. By confronting ancestral traces with imagined robotic presences, Gabriel challenges the boundaries between memory and computation, inheritance and simulation.

Influenced by both photojournalism and the disruptive logic of Pop, his work positions history as an active, unstable material, one that continues to shape, and be reshaped by, the systems that may one day replace or redefine it.
